| Dispatchers
save seconds...Seconds save lives. |
| Dispatchers are a
vital link between the community and emergency response teams. A Dispatcher is the first
person that you speak with when you call the police department or 911 and are the ones
that will send help in time of emergency. Whether you need Police assistance, Fire
Department response or Emergency Medical Services the Dispatchers are responsible to get
that service to you. |
| Dispatchers
tell cops where to go. |
| We keep our ears
open, our fingers moving and our minds working. There is always radio communications to
monitor and transmit, data to be entered into our Computer Aided Dispatch and numerous
non-emergency telephone lines and 911 lines that have to be staffed 24 hours a day and 7
days a week. |
| We
are always here for you. |
| Dispatchers are
here to Serve and Protect just like Police Officers. One way they do this is by being that
listening ear on the other end of the phone when you are in need of help. Whether someone
is breaking in your house, or you have an unwanted person at your door, Dispatchers are
trained to know what information to relate to the Police Officers responding to your
emergency and to give you instructions to keep yourself safe until Police
get to you.
The real tasks of an Emergency Dispatcher are very
different than what is seen on television. At any given time the Dispatchers
of the Simpsonville Police Department may be found
answering multiple phones, using up to four computers at a time, looking up vital information in
one of the many resource manuals, communicating on two separate radio
channels and writing it all down. This is
no easy task! All of this is done behind the scenes and often goes
overlooked. We are truly grateful for the difficult job that our
Dispatchers accomplish each and every day. Although this job has high stress levels at times,
we realize Dispatchers are
.. the
calm during the storm. |
