| Providing the
community a safe environment to live in is our main goal as a Police Department. This is
achieved by delegating tasks to various divisions. The 23 Officers assigned to the Uniform
Patrol Division are charged with the responsibility of providing a variety of services.
They must preserve the public peace and order, while honoring and protecting the rights of
individuals; prevent and repress criminal activity, apprehend criminal offenders, enforce
traffic safety laws and regulate other conduct pertinent to the public health, safety and
welfare, recover and return property, and provide such other services as are needed to
protect persons and property.
These goals are achieved by having a police presence within
the neighborhoods to reduce the opportunity for criminal activity and to apprehend those
persons who do engage in such activities; by regulating the flow of traffic on the streets
throughout the City. This entails enforcement as well as education. Enforcement is
accomplished by using radar equipment, parking control and investigation of accidents.
